The Gun in the Mouth Film Society™ was established to celebrate the finest in utterly depressing cinema^©, to educate cinema aficionados on the finer points of celebrated gun-in-the-mouth films, and to test the ability of individuals to endure the severe psychic shock of as many gun-in-the-mouth films as possible within one sitting.

The Gun in the Mouth Film Society began in the early 2000s by four cinema masochists who naturally gravitate towards gun-in-the-mouth films. The Gun in the Mouth Film Society was formalized in May 2010 by the Society’s four founders who now compose The Gun in the Mouth Film Society Advisory Board™ and who make the official selections for the Gun in the Mouth Film Collection™. The Society recognizes esteemed lovers of gun-in-the-mouth films as Friends of the Gun in the Mouth Film Society™.
