The desperation and misery that GitM films imprint upon the viewer can sometimes be interpreted as pretentious. We at the GitMFS prefer to allow ourselves to be flayed by the torture of hopeless situations and characters, knowing that the ending credit scrolls may make us feel cheated, disturbed, and anxious. These films affect us for days, worrying and wondering about what the future could hold for such imaginary people and their stations in life. The GitMFC celebrates the lives and stories depicted in films that are powerful enough to leave the viewer upset for days after seeing such films, wondering “what if”, or “what happens next”, or perhaps, “what if it was me”…
